Hello, yes i work night shift, i am a RN and i work in the emergency room.
Yes its a little slower at times, but this time of year the flu and other viruses are around so that makes for many, many patients. And there are fewer staff so there is more work to do, Yes usually there is a shift diff, so the pay is more....I hope this answers your questions

I have worked in a hospital for 11 years as a registered nurse. A lot of how busy you will be depends on which department you work in. If you are an ER clerk, there is never dull moment because people come in all hours of the day and nite. It can be just as crazy at 3 am as it is at 10 in the mornining. We admit more people in the day time, but sometimes nites can be as crazy for the desk clerks. The nite time desk people re fill all of the charts and file things and stock supplies.
Keep in mind, a hospital is open 24 hrs a day 7 days a week and you will be required to work holidays, weekends, and other times when it is not so desirable for your schedule, and people who work in hospitals are very dedicated to their work. Also, most of the nite shifters in the hospital where I work get what is called a shift differential which means they make more for working nites.

Yes night shift is 11p-7a. Yes you do get paid a shift differencial which is more money. As far as slower it all depends on what part of the hospital you are working in. If you are on a floor doing clerical work yes and no depends on the number of admissions that come in.

Worked nights as RN, but never as a clerk;Depends on your hospital's hours. Some work 11-7, some 7P to 7A, some slightly different times. Yes, you should get a night shift differential. And usually dayturn is the busiest, but nights can be horrible and you usually don't have as much staff to help. These are all excellent questions to ask in the interview, and shows them you are interested. Write them down beforehand and memorize them (don't refer to a list during the interview) and remember that you are a professional!

I am a Registered Nurse who primarily works 11-7. You do get a shift differential for working this shift (usually $2 or $3). How busy you are depends on what area you work in....The ER is very busy.

I have worked the night shift in 2003.
11pm -7am, yes it is the night shift.
You will get night time shift differental for working at night (more money).
Some nights will be slow and some will be busy.
Remember you are going to be working in a hospital.!!!!!
Working in Medical Records would be more quiet, less people around.
