Yes, magnitude 8.1. Small tsunami waves have hit northern Japan, according to the country's meteorological agency (JMA).

It said a 40cm (16 inches) wave hit Nemuro port in Hokkaido island. Another one of 20cm (8 inches) was recorded.

The JMA initially expected a tsunami of at least two metres (6.5 feet) high after an 8.1 magnitude earthquake shook the Kuril Islands, north of Japan.

The earthquake struck about 390km (240 miles) east of Iturup, known as Etorofu in Japan, at 2015 (1115 GMT), the JMA said.

There have been no reports of injuries or damage following the earthquake.

Yes, 8.1 on the Richter. This is huge.
Tsunami reports are coming in.
It could affect as far as Canada's west coast. We do not have all the reports in yet.

It could affect Korea both N and S in that area. Well, let's hope the loss of life is kept to a minimum. Pray.....!!

It was near Japan (Hakodate) and Russia (Russian Far East Islands - Sakhalin, Kuril Islands) and it wasn't that big.
We're still alive.

A teeny tsunami hit the island of Kauai, I believe. And our island, Oahu, got a warning to stay clear of beaches.
