Crayola makes a crayon to be used on fabric. The packs are available at the craft store and in some Office Depot stores. If you have the child draw on plain white paper using the crayons, you can iron their artwork onto plain canvas tote bags you can also get at the craft store. Mom can use them as grocery bags, book totes or even purses and diaper bags and the child will be proud of the unique design.

If you are looking for a Christmas present they could always make a picture frame. You can buy them at the local craft store. They can decorate them however they want.

how bout a turkey pine cone? Get 1 pine cone glue feathers of all colors eyes and just make somthing up with the neck! Have fun!

get a piece of paper and let them write i love you notes on it in lemon juice, it will be invisible until they tell mom to rub it against a light bulb, the heat will make the writing appear like magic (the kid will be thrilled)

they can paint macaroni and string them for a necklace; or get small clay pots and glue a pic of the child on the front & have them decorate it with buttons (hot glue them on) then fill it with candy.
i did the clay pots with my son's class when he was little & the parents loved them!
