Check the label and make sure the item is not dry clean only. Use warm or cold water, not hot. Dry clothes on a low temperature or hang dry. Most shrinking takes place in the dryer, so it is important that you watch the temperature in both machines, not just the washer.

Depending on the material, wash them in cold water and do not put them in the dryer. Wash the clothing on gentle cycle, if it is a special material, then hang them or lay them flat to dry.

depends on what your washing....usually if it's cotton, it'll shrink regardless of what you do.
but if you wash in cold water, and hang dry, or dry with no heat in your dryer, they won't shrink up as much!

No hot water & no high heat dryer. If you have newer machines, there should be a delicate cycle. Use it for hand washables on cold water & use low temp. on dryer or hang them or lay flat to dry.
