Pronouncing Japanese is actually a lot different than what we think it is in English.
In Japanese, the vowel "u" in the syllable "su" tends to be pronounced very faintly or not at all before some consonents (so that the syllable sounds like "s"). As in the word "sukoshi" (which means 'a little bit'), and at the end of some words, as in the polite copula "desu" and the polite verb suffix "-masu." These examples are often pronounced "skoshi," "des," and "mas."
By the way, Sudoku was actually invented in America. It was really renamed in Japan where it was more popular. This really doesn't have anything to do with your question, but it's interesting nonetheless right?
