Music corner. An old second hand guitar, a key board and some bongo drums. Great for promoting creativity.

Hmm.. I'd say add a bar, but if you have kids, maybe not. My father just got his basement finished. He got a 42" TV, a leather couch and 2 leather recliners, added a bar with nice track lighting above it, a bathroom with a corner shower, a storage room, new carpet, tiny Bose surround sound speakers each corner of the room, a poker table, a foosball table, and in about a week a pool table. I'm going to try to surprise him with a "Karate Champ" arcade game for Christmas, which he apparently loved in the late 70s.

But a lot of what you can do depends on the ages of your kids. I wouldn't really want to have a nice billiards table with fragile felt and such with 5 year olds running around. Or a dart board! Or a bar. I'd personally make it the way I wanted it, and put a lock on the door and keep the kids out.

don't do popcorn machine unless you enjoy greasy buttery fingerprints all over your rec room.

don't put your pool table too close to the laundry room, your wife will cover it with clothes.

we have a chalkboard on the wall, the kids enjoy this giving me more time to practice pool.

A loud stereo so you cannot hear your wife.

Playstation

shelving around the room to show of your favorite collection of things mine is old cameras.

electronic darts

intercom so you can call your wife when your hungry

Oh you have to have a pool table, huge windowed doors to enter through, marble flooring, and definetly, arcade games.
