In the lytic cycle you have attachment, penetration, replication and synthesis followed by progeny release whereas in a lysogenic infection the virus integrates into the host genome. The two are interchangeable. A virus such as HIV will enter a cell and integrate and at some point (under cell control) replicate its genome and produce progeny (a lytic infection.). Hope that helps.
