The Rosetta Stone is a stone with writing on it in two languages (Egyptian and Greek), using three scripts (hieroglyphic, demotic and Greek). Comparative translation of the stone assisted in understanding many previously undecipherable examples of hieroglyphic writing.

you can learn a lot about the future by studying the past. that is the easiest way to explain the answer to your question.

oh, ok, specifically the Rosetta stone... ok, so that changes the question and the answer a little... well, the Rosetta stone helped the archaeologists unlock hieroglyphics, which enabled them to understand most of the Egyptian written history.

read this little article for more information on the topic. interesting...

Studying ancient civilization is history and those before us, were alive to make our lives the way they are now. So if ancient civilization is the study of another place in time, than we all need to learn and evolve from there examples as human beings, who lived so we now can understand.

hah, well....history is basically the study of man, when it comes down to it and its important to know how things began...if ancient civilizations hadn't laid down certain engineering/agricultural/political techniques, we would have never progressed...

it's important to have the foundation for all the wonderful things we have today...a lot of it started with ancient civilizations
