Excellent question. Gun control obviously does not reduce crime. In fact, restrictive gun laws have been shown to correlate to an increase in crime. This makes perfect sense if you think about it. Criminals would prefer their victims to be unarmed. So what will work. I work in the field of mental health so I see a lot of people who have violent tendencies, or are otherwise mentally unbalanced. I would propose a nationwide effort to promote mental health. Currently, the state mental hospitals are generally deplorable. Much could be done to better these institutions. Jails and prisons are run like indoor gang lands, where violence is bred and spreads like a disease. It is no wonder that their are so many repeat offenders. People go in to prison for a petty crime, and come out a hate-filled, hardened criminal. Guns have never been, and never will be the problem. Striving toward a more mentally and spiritually (not religiously) balanced society is the answer.

With gun control... all the good-law abiding people will not have guns. And all the bad guys will.
So where would be the scale for crime rate then?
Read history... It is rarely mentioned but Hitler could'nt take Russia for one main fact is,at that time, all it's citizens could have guns. When the German commanders were asked what the hold up was. They said they were not fighting an army but the whole population of Russia. Man,woman and child.
Another phrase for Gun Control is People Control.
Would'nt the British have loved Gun Control laws back before the American Revolution.
The "Right to Bare Arms" and the unregistered firearms in this country are a gaurentee that you still have the right to vote and live free.

What do you mean "do it"? "Do it" as in solve all our problems so we can be a crime-free happy loving and peacful society? Sorry won't happen. It's in our nature to hurt kill and destroy. People have been doing it long before guns were around and will still be doing it whenever the next generation technology comes around. Guns are an equalizer. They allow a 100 pound woman to meet force with force against a 300 pound rapist. Take away the legal guns and only the criminals will have them. And then what do you think will happen to the 100 pound woman?
Also keep in mind that overall crime has been dropping for decades and gun ownership is at an all time high.

We have thousands of laws on the books concerning the improper use of guns that are regularly disregarded. We have numerous gun-control laws that get ignored, more laws won't solve anything.
NEWS FLASH: Criminals don't give a rip about laws.
Gun control laws only effect law abiding citizens...and make them less safe.

Excellent question. I'm very happy to live in a place with tight gun control laws. I feel much safer living here than if I did in a place where nearly every person owned a gun.
