It's "The Lion Sleeps Tonite." The version we are all familiar with is the one that The Tokens did in 1961. It originated as a song called "Mbube" by Solomon Linda, a South African Zulu musician. The word Mbube is Zulu for Lion. In the early '50s, The song was recorded by the Weavers under the title "Wimoweh," which was a misinterpretation of the lyrics. The group was falsely given composing credits for it.
Linda was duped into selling the rights to the song for 10 shillings, not anticipating that would eventually make several million dollars. Earlier this year, Linda's heirs reached a huge settlement with the publisher who had previously claimed ownership of the song and who licensed it to Disney.
