cause they look different from what most people imagine "normal" people to look like, which thanks to the media is preppy people. i dont hate goth people. i have a gothic friend and she's pretty cool. but she's not extreme with the black lipstick and all that. thats the only thing i dislike, nd the clothes, cause its not my personal taste. your still people, nd as long as u dont hurt others or worship the devil, people have no right to hate you. =]

Because the goth subculture is one example of MANY subcultures whose purpose (primary or secondary) is an attempt to 'shock' the mainstream. The *goal* is to get a reaction from people, whether or not every individual in the subculture realizes it. All it does, of course, is acclimatize the 'mainstream' to the gothic look, so that it becomes less and less shocking over time.

Once this happens entirely, the goths will turn somewhere else, because the whole idea is an attempt to be different. This has played out for centuries with everything from music to jewelry. The "system" simply doesn't get shocked – the sooner people realize that, the sooner we'll have peace in the world.

When someone sees a goth, they see piercings, all black and lots of makeup. Personally, I am a little freaked out by goths. Maybe not all goths, but some listen to music that scares me, or it is all of this yelling and stuff. It kind of gives people the wrong idea, you know? I am not saying all goths are like that, but many are.

I think people are generally intimidated by cultures that they don't understand. I've heard people lump goths in categories just like racists lump people in categories it is non-stop. Unfortunately, you will not be able to change the way people think, however, you can change how you see yourself and others. Yeah.. there are a lot of bad apples out there, but don't let them spoil your fun...okay?

Because "goths" present themselves to be scary. They dress that way for the attention because of bad experiences in their life. I just love it when they're all "I'm so different" when they look just like the person standing next to them.

Ever hear of Columbine?

People that wear black all the time, have weird hair and make up, seem to be depressed and angry. They don't fit in. At least that's the vibe I get from many of them.

Actually, if women don't go too overboard on the look, I find it kind of attractive.

its cause you look diffrent, its just human nature with a handful of immaturity.
Sure you are just like everyone else inside, but you don't "look" like everyone else. Not to say that's wrong, more power to ya, you just have to realize that people are going to take a step back if there not used to seeing diffrent people.

My neice is goth and I do understand it. I don't dislike or am not afraid of them. I do wonder why anyone would want to look that way.

i dont know about the hate part, but they scare me because they look scary, act weird, and give you this look of death if you even look in their direction. Now maybe if they smiled at someone and not in a creepy way people would like them.

Well, if I saw someone who looked like Marilyn Manson in a dark alley, I might be a little worried.
