i always thought they were brothers but now someone tells me that they're friends. HELP ME DISPROVE MY FRIEND!

Friends. They were based off of two guys Burt and Ernie from an Old classic movie called "It's a Wonderful Life" in which they were two police officers.

As far as I know they are friends. They were named after two cops in Jimmy Stewart's movie "A Wonderful LIfe".
