I think it means that happy "souls" or people, good people will bring out the good in you and lead you to better places. Where as bad people will just cause you to mask the good inside yourself, and make you loose sight of where you want to be, need to go, etc. In other words lead you off your path to good things in life.
But then again it is all in how you interpert what it says.

No problem. A happy soul creates happiness, therefore a happy day. In another hand negative thoughts unables us to see the good or righteous things in life which may lead us to astray.
