If a man came from a poor family/background and worked hard to teach himself to type and learn office procedures, then got a good job as an Administrative Assistant (secretary) or Legal Assistant, which paid well and had benefits, would you think it was a "girl" job? Guys would you say "That's a chick's job" or something like that?

Ladies I forgot to ask - would you date a man who had a "woman's" job, if he was an Admin or even a nurse's assistant?

No... Actually, that is probably one of those job stereotypes like nurses with women. When you think of a secretary, you probably would automatically imagine the secretary being a woman. Think about it, most things in the media portray them as woman, for instance, In Meet The Fockers, everyone makes fun of Ben Stiller for being a nurse.

what? that's like saying only men can be a police officer, a doctor, a soldier, a pilot, etc and women should restrict themselves to being teachers, librarians and stay at home parents.

what's wrong with a bloke doing an admin assistant job? if he's good at it, if he likes it, then what's the big deal???

women and men can do any job there is and there's no reason to stereotype people into any role.

good on him for lifting himself out of a less than fortunate life and here's hoping he has a fantastic career and enjoys himself every day at work.

That's just silly. Why is a an Admin. Asst. or a Legal Secretary a woman's job?

That's just not true anymore. If he was from a disadvantaged background and pulled himself up by his bootstraps, and was earning an honest decent wage, I wouldn't really care what his profession was; I'd be impressed with his ability and determination.

So, no. I wouldn't think it's a "girl job."

As an employer, I'd congratulate the guy on having a job, regardless of what it was. It takes alot of hard working people to pay for all the bums on unemployment and welfare. I know, not everyone getting help is a bum, but too many are. No job is beneath a person. A job is something to be proud of. It gives self respect, and I won't take that away from anyone by making fun of them or looking down on them.

It's a little odd, but I've seen it done, particularly as a stepping stone. Most male nursing assistants are in nursing or PA or some other type of school.

It's more how the guy carries himself than what kind of job he has. A guy who has a "no apologies" attitude about his job is more likely to pull it off than someone who seems embarrassed about it.

OK if a female becomes a cop,or a fire fighter, or a professional boxer, or goes int he Military and goes and fights like a man, is she still a female, and should guys date her?
OF COURSE !
He and everyone else should be proud of his accomplishments ans how far eh has come...he should get compliments for what he is doing now, and as you DID say he makes great money doing it...
more people should ( old saying ) pick themselves up by their boot straps and do exactly what this man did..this country, and world would be a much better place.....I t does not matter what job you have as long as you do not put anyone else at harm by doing it...and he is not....
be proud of him...

good luck

i guess more than often you would find a girl working that job. But i guess its all about equality now, so anyone should be allowed to have the job. I mean i am a trainee Civil Enginner, but in my college there is a lot of girls who are engineers. Now you would expect that to come under a guy job. I suppose if you meet the criteria for the job perfect, you should have a chance at doing the job.

Girl , if thats the only thing you are thinking then stop dating the guy. He needs somebody who can appreciate what he is doing. For people who doesnt have that much in life but still strive to earn a descent living.. They have the drive and the perseverance that you might not have.Me and my husband wasnt able to finish college but have given ourselves a descent and well paying job. How would you feel if your job has to be capentry or a garbage collector???

Office jobs such as a secretary, bank teller aren't just jobs for women, same as construction jobs aren't just for men, where does it say that only women can be secetaries? Where does it say that only men can work consturction or operate heavy equipment? Nowhere that I know of. As long as the person has the know-how and is good at thier job, it's okay for them. There's not room to say this job is just for women & this one is just for men, not anymore. One time in the hospital, I had a male nurse. My first doctor (before she retired) was female and she was a good doctor. As long as they know what they're doing, forget the his & hers jobs.

i don't see being a nurse as just a woman's job. there have been more men going into the nursing field in the latest years. i don't see the problem with a guy doing a "woman's job", for me it's more about how the guy looks, and his personality, and the chemistry between us.
