The Long's checking account was overdrawn by $35.87. They deposited $580 in the account. Then they wrote checks for $25 and $254.09. Find their new balance. Use only one variable

x = -35.87 + 580 - 25 - 254.09

x = 265.04

If you wanna know if this is an algebra question, then yes. The answer is $265.04

-$35.87+$580=$544.13 - $279.09 = $265.04

You dont need to use a variable since all the numbers are already there.

But the number withdrawn was 25 and 254.09 which is 279.09 if you would like to use that as the variable.
