In short yes, they can either contact you verbally inperson or phone and tell you they will be in at a stated time, or merely post a notice on your door 24 hours prior to entering.

It depends on the terms of your lease. Often landlords reserve the right to access the property in case of emergency but that would not cover this situation.

Get a copy off your lease and get advice from a lawyer.

I believe legally he needs to ask you 24 hours in advance and tell you when he will be there. If you are uncomfortable with it, say no. Work out a time when you will be there to supervise these people going through your home.
I wouldn't want strangers walking around my home seeing my valubles out in the open.
