I've done three of them on the last four months. I take the bed off ( just eight bolts and wiring for the tail, brake, and backup lights. You and three friends can lift the bed and set it off in the yard. Un bolt the plastic holder of the filler tube to fender (two torque screws and a plastic pin holder) Then you can get directly to the supply, return, and vent lines plus the two wire connections to the top of the plastic mounting flange for the fuel pump. You won't need to empty the gas out or fight with the tank bands. Just be careful to keep the junk and rust from falling into the tank and special care when putting in the new oring on the top of the tank. You should be able to do it in three hours, easy.

Good luck.

You don't need a diagram. But If I were you I'd go to a part store and buy a Haynes manual for your truck. It will tell you exactly what to do and what tools you'll need. But here is a brief description of what to do.
Make sure you don't have a full tank of gas. It will make it a bear to get the tank down with it full. 1/4 of a tank or less is ideal. Remember... 1 gallon of fluid weighs 8Lbs. Multiply that by 20 to 25 and that's how heavy your tank is gonna be.
Disconnect the battery.
Loosen tank retaining straps, but not all the way off.
Loosen the clamps on the filler tube and the vent tube that connect to the tank.
Put a shop sized floor jack under the tank. remove the rear tank strap and lower tank slowly till you can see the top of the tank and get your hands in there.
Unplug the fuel pump plug. There my be a plastic cotter pin you have to remove to unplug it.
Remove the fuel lines from the fuel pump. "Your gonna need I believe on your vehicle" a tool to get the line off called a spring lock tool. They come in different sizes and can be used on Ford Ac lines and some fuel filters. It can be purchased at a parts store for about $5.00 or less. The tool slides on over the line and you push it up the line into where it connects to the fuel pump and frees the line from the snap ring locks. And you can pull the line out.
Once you've got all the lines and plugs un plugged. loosen the front strap till it can be removed and slowly Drop the tank and slide it out from under the truck.
There will be a very large locking ring holding the fuel pump and sending unit to the tank. This can be removed with a screwdriver and hammer. The ring should come unlocked in a counter clockwise direction. Once the ring is off pull the pump assembly out. Then reverse the proceedure to install. Make sure you get the filler tubes on correctly and the clamps are tight when you reinstall it. And that's it. Buy the Haynes manual though. The info in there should tell you what to do and what not to do. It will be the best 30 dollars or less that you ever spent on your vehicle. It really does tell you how to fix just about everything on your vehicle. Don't forget to reconnect the battery.
