Because the lighter you are the more you look "pure" like the color white. White is associated with holiness, good, pure, heavenly while Black is associated with evil, Hell, dirtiness, ugly.

Years of conditioning. My parents told me that in the days of slavery the lighter the person was the more trust worthy they were to the slave masters and were treated better. And that mentality was passed on for many generations. Growing up as a dark skin sister I have had many men of many races interested in me, but my sister who was lighter couldn't understand that. She felt as if she had some kind of privilidge because she was a few shades lighter. I think time and education will stamp out this old slave mentality.

i used to think that too...but now im starting to think its all about who you ask....Ok like were l live im considered light...but up north im considered dark... also, ppl like different things. When i went to france the guys went crazy tring to hook up with me. I was VERY surprised, as well as my freinds that are VERY VERY hot white women.
Later, when i returned to the states, a french man started gushing about me...and i asked him why...he went on to say that black "pretty" women are very rare in france so when we (the french guys) see one we freak out,...(basically thats what he said) Well, i dont know...lol its crazy, Maybe in america lighter skin may be prettier, but in other countries (from my own personal experience) this is not true...but i may be wrong so yeah take my opinion as you want luv...

Well that's kinda funny cuz white and light skin folks try for the tan look and then the dark skin people want to be light skin... makes you wander why all the hate....

You are wrong! People who are dark skin are always attracted to light skin and light skins are always attracted to dark skins. Unexplained behavior of humans.

I don't think that at all. I think dark skin is beautiful. In fact, I wish I wasn't so white all the time. Be proud of yourself, and the color of your skin.

No, I don't. There's beauty in every color. Also, there are more dark people in the world than light, and they have less skin cancer.

Not true...lighter skin people are always trying to look tan.
You nare referring to old racial predjudices...If you see models today, they are a variety of races and colors and all deemed pretty.

All I know is that I try to get some sun in the summer so I have a beautiful color.
