Bluetooth is essentially wireless connectivity between devices. If you have a bluetooth capable phone, you can use a wireless headset or wireless file transfer between your cell phone and your computer (assuming your computer is bluetooth capable). It has a broadcast range of 10 meters, or 33 feet. A lot of practical cell phone uses come with keeping your cell phone in the glovebox of your car and using a bluetooth headset. You can also get bluetooth kits in your car so that you can have a phone conversation using the speakers in your car.
Bluetooth is not specific to cell phones, but I assume that's what you're interested in because you posted this in the cell phone section...

A Wireless connection, similar to the idea of a wireless phone. Bluetooth is used for closer wireless conections. For example a device with bluetooth close to to a bluetooth enabled PC, would recognise the device and connect without wires. However over a greater distance, the bluetooth connecton would be lost.

bluetooth is a wireless technology that allows you to pair multiple devices together without additional software or wires connecting the devices. if your computer has bluetooth, for example, and you want to "tether" your palm device (planner) to it, you can wirelessly sync information from the laptop to the phone, such as calendar, to do list, contacts, datebook, etc. Both devices have to have bluetooth installed, otherwise it will not work.
phones with bluetooth allow you to use a wireless headset, transfer pictures, contacts, or other info from phone to phone or phone to pc. you can also use the phone as a modem for your laptop with the bluetooth by tethering the two together.
it's kinda tricky and confusing, but great to have and use!

Bluetooth is a technology which lets devices communicate with each other without wires over relatively short distances (as opposed to technologies like WiFi and Cellular). You will often see this used with cellular phone headsets (those little things so many people have hanging off their ears) and things like computer mice and keyboards so that you don't have to have so many cables hanging around.
