It varies depending on exactly what internal components are failed. If it's just a valve body problem, the cost could be less. If it's got to do with the discs/plates being worn and/or there is an shaft damage, you could be looking at a much larger cost. Newer style transmissions cost way more than yester-year. Whether you get it rebuilt or replaced (a remanufactured unit is the best way to go -- just be aware of warranties), MAKE SURE the technician flushes out the cooler and lines.

I have a 1997 Suburban. I had to get it replaced in March. $2600.00

IF your worried about the cost,you shouldn't own a Jag.Suffice to say it will probably be expensive.
