Like, suppose an employee wasn't supposed to release a product on a certain date at a department store but did anyway. For example, an employee releases a Harry Potter book or Wii or the new PS3 before it's supposed to be released

What could happen?

Always been curious.

If the company were to find out such as Sony or what have you the store would be fined X amount of dollars, The employee may be terminated or coached for improvement but probably not any legal action.

Bookshops have had their reseller agreements rescinded for selling the Potter books too soon. In other words, they're not going to be allowed to sell the books ever again.

I'm guessing an employee responsible for that kind of business disaster would probably be canned, but it's up to the shop's management, I guess.
