Beginning of story:
“Can anyone tell me what a serf is,” asked Mr. Rodner before he paused to pick out a student to answer the question. Mary, the girl next to me raised her hand. I’m not surprised. She’s the smartest girl in this sixth grade and has no trouble flaunting her intelligence. Her brown hair falls sloppily over her forehead, never once forgetting to veil her glasses. Last year, Mary always appeared to have a book in her hand, earning her the nickname “Novels.”
“A serf is the name of a peasant or usually a slave during the middle ages,” answered Novels without hesitation.
“Yes, that’s exactly right,” Mr. Rodner said in reply.
“After school on Friday, I went to the library and read all on the articles I could find on the medieval ages,” she boasted.
“Oh brother,” I muttered under my breath as I glanced outside the open window next to my seat. The windows in our classroom are... (con.)

The only flaw I found in this bit of your story was that Novels should have read all ***OF*** the articles she found in the library. Just a typo, I'm sure.
