email me for guitar tips: mysticaura29@yahoo.com

as for a band, just ask around. or make a flyer

the flyer should have:

"beginner guitarist starting a *music genre* band. looking for a keyboardist, drummer and/or a guitarist. If you're interested, please contact *name* at *contact info*."

tips:
don't jump right into stuff that's nearly impossible to play such as Dream Theater or Tool (really hard drums), that stuff is very technically demanding for a beginner (sorta play) and they have very unique time signatures.
Green Day is a good band to cover: easy catchy songs, it will help you as a band mesh with one another more
Blink-182 can be good to cover as well.
Set a practice schedule, maybe once or twice a week.
EVERYBODY needs to PRACTICE.

this is a tiny list of stuff to consider, but it should get you started.

good luck!

Okay. This may seem a bit different than the other answers but this is the way to do it. I -know- for I had a music business in Florida and this is how I started it (I don't have it anymore because of relocation).
-- Go to a place like http://www.musolist.com/ (or just search find local musicians in Google and get a place like Coffee Stain or www.meetup.com) and put up a post. One important thing to remember is to be honest! Be honest about your equiptment be honest about your skills.
--Make sure to leave contact information.
--Browse the adds already listed. Find some you like and contact them.
--A good way to learn more about practices and try outs and such like that is to go to a few. So you don't make it, Go, See how they work. You find out about a few different bands that way.

I've found over hundreds and hundreds of local musicians this way across the United States and I believe that if you do it this way you'll find something. Don't be afraid to contact them either.
this is one way I know works if you follow up with e-mails and phone calls. :D

I hope you have the best of luck on your journey!!!

As far as playing the guitar. I learned by myself. I taught myself how to play by reading the boring books and by watching other people play and found my own style. Now I can play things from Metallica to Led Zeppelin to Alabama.lmao. Really anything I try to play and I learned it all on my own. I'm not suggesting that be the method but if you don't have money for lessons it works. You obviously have connection to the internet maybe powertabs. Power tabs and the power tab editor will take you through the notes beat by beat helping you learn to play along with favorite songs. Once you've tried a few songs and got down the gist of the guitar than you won't have that hard of a time making up your own songs.

Everything requires patience!

Make a flier and go to your local music shop... And not some place in the mall, a real music place, where the dude behind the counter is actually a musician who can help you.
