When I'm listening to a song, sometimes it will cut out little bits of the song, much like a cd that skips. and other times, it has cut off the entire end of a song! and when i try to go back to replay the song, it still won't play the song till the end. i got my ipod last christsmas, so it isn't that old! i've also been keeping it in a case for the last few months, so it's not that beat up. what could be wrong?

happens a lot. its very common. take it back to the shop asap and they will exchange it. simply tell them the situation and often even if you don't have all the papers they will return it. but you should at least have the receit? well if not tell them its a gift how long you've had it and the such. i've done this personally 5 times. its a known problem with the ipods that mac doesn't disclose. i believe if you go to their page and search that issue a a problem it gets the most searches .something like that.

anyway. its common it won't get magically better so you are wise to take it back now before they ask you to pay like 50 bucks to fix it.

your battery is running down, you need to recharge it and some of th early models have a really low battery life (recharging often wears it down quicker, so eventually its on permanent or u get this all teh time) - u can take it back within a year and they will give you another or buy one of the newer models that has this problem fixed
