Try impressing the coach. Practice three pointers, lay-ups, and free throws. Don't be a ball hog coaches hate that. show some defense and offense. From then you should succeed.

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE !

Especially drills. Of course you have to play as much as possible too. But you could play a lot with bad fundamentals and lack of strength, agility, etc and not improve that much. Look up many drills online and just go to a park and do them. Thats when I started noticing those skills translate into my game.

All drills are great. But I like to focus on a couple. First off, make sure you get good handles. (I like a couple drills a lot but its hard to type out). But handles is key, handles will open up other parts of your game and makes everything easier. The second tip Id say is to work on your LEFT hand. Practice dribbling left, slashing to your left, and left handed layups. Trust me, it makes life a lot easier. A last tip would be to work out but focus on your core. Do a lot of abs and back stuff. It increases your core strength and balance and agility. Sprints are great too, they increase your quickness and explosiveness.

Do everything with purpose and not half-arsed. When you play in games, dont just try to just shoot. Work on parts of your game. "Today Im gonna work on my shot, or passing, or defense."

Oh yeah, play hard defense always!.....coaches love it.

(Note: I just thought, this is all for a guard. If you are a big man........then disregard most of it )

Only one thing u can do hon. That is practice practice and more practice.Plus when u throw the ball in the hoop you guide with your right hand. The ball comes off your right hand. It's hard to explain. Get someone to teach u.If u already know then all u can do is keep practiceing.Good luck

Work on your passing and defense. It may seem like a simplistic answer but defense wins championships, and a good passer is a coach's dream. And good free-throw shooting is always a plus.

master the basics. dribbling and passing can be just as important as shooting. keep your hands up on defense. good footwork is key. work on using your other hand as often as you use your dominant one. it's a team game, work with the other four guys on the court with you. and of course practice your shot.
