Barack Obama's views are very strong and show a lot of compassion, persistance, and patriotism. However, it is never as simple as saying yes while hearing a speech. As sad as it is to say, America is as ready to have an African American president as it is ready for a female president. I doubt it will happen in the near future. Let it be known, that isn't because of the actual issues and views. It's because the majority of this society has a vision of what a president should be [much like the presidents that have come before our time] and expect the same out of the position. The majority of our society isn't ready to accept the fact that there are intelligent people who care about this country who AREN'T 45+year old white Christian males. African Americans and females alike contain people who are just as intelligent and worldly. Both groups should have a chance to have a representative in the White House. However, as we both know, most of this society disagrees.

I would've voted for Colin Powell in half a heartbeat. That man could've fixed this country and then some. I find it a shame he didn't run before and won't run now. I am interested in Barack Obama but I think that he is too new in the Senate. After he has a proven track record in the Senate I think he'll be better thought of. I think in the next 10 years if he proves himself, he could be a huge contender! I think we are all ready for a change of perspective. I am not anti-Bush (I voted for him, I'm republican, and I'm an AF wife) but it's time for a change!

Only time will tell. I think this country is fully ready for a black or a female President. Of course, that doesn't mean a woman/AA would win an election.

I think America is ready, as long as they are the right person. The same goes for a woman. It's just in due time. As far as Obama, I think he's at least a better choice than crazy Hilary.

Affirmative Action sucks @$$!!! Why can't we have the best man/woman for president and have that as the rule? Why must we rush to put in someone for president just because they're black?
How about having leaders that can actually lead well and screw their statistics?

Depends on the person, not the race. I don't trust Barack but I do like Lynn Swann, for example.

Who cares what color or race he is?!
Look if he can do his job well and not be distracted by Lewinsky or Cherry Forever under his desk giving him the president special while on the phone that's all that matters.
