Works (plural) in gold...ARE exhibited... (if referring to individual works of art)

Works/are would be correct
Work/in would be correct
but not Work/are

Note:
Work in X, Y, and Z is exhibited... implies this is one body of work.

Works in X, Y, and Z are exhibited ... emphasizes different pieces of diverse materials.

I hope this helps...I looked on Wikipedia and typed in work, then went to the section of art and fine works. They used the word work as A piece of art. So I would think that you would use works.

I believe "works" would be the correct plural noun.
An artist exhibits his body of work, but his works are on display in gallery.
