Usually, 1st and last month's rent, plus security deposit (equal to a month's rent), plus deposits for gas, electric, and phone. Contact your local utility companies and the phone company to find out what their deposit policy is. Generally, they will refund your deposit, or apply it to your bill, after you have established that you will pay the bill in full upon receipt.

In most states the owner can demand 2 or 3 months rent in advance. This breaks down as a.) first months rent...b.) last months rent....c.) a rental deposit equal to the first months rent.

Most states allow extra charges for a new lock and key. As well as extra deposit for pets.

Since you don't say where you are a dollar amount is impossible to give. Look in the local newspapers where you are under apartments for rent.

It all depends where you want to live in a nice neighborhood or
a descendant neighborhood or the best neighborhood. 1. it can
go as low as $ 565.00 a month and $ 565 Deposit= $1130.00,
or $800-975/ 2.$1250-1350 a month and that can just be one bed room/2bed room. the better place you live the more expensive it gets. 3.Roach infested place for the cheaper places. So what ever the cost to move in then just double the price because you have to pay the deposit and that not including
the truck to rent to move all your stuff over to your to your new
place.

Well it depends where you live but if you are thinking just deposit and first months rent in my city that would be like $2000 that is not even counting the deposits to open utilities and the amount of money you waste on house things. Maybe $4,000-6,000

Are you talking about the apartment itself? I'm in Boston, and first, last and security can run a person $3K or more. Adding furniture, it depends. You could furnish a place with Ikea for around $2,500 (very spartanly) or less if you went the flea market route.

Usualy you need a deposit and the first months rent. A safe bet would be to double the rent for that first payment.

That really depends on your location, the size of the apartment, and the quality of the apartment complex. You should be more specific.
