I am 65 and gainfully employed, but it has been a struggle. I graduated with an MBA in 2000 and retired from the military in the same year. Finding any job at 58 was difficult and the employers were definately discriminating against anyone who they thought might raise their premiums on health insurance. They all lightened up when I told them I wanted no retirement plan or health insurance because I had my own. However my point is that most seniors over 65 are either unemployed or under employed and Wall Mart would be a great place to take stosk of the seniors plight. I have met Wall Mart seniors that were engineers, teachers, and aerospace workers that could not live on their retirement plans and/or social security. No company can have a written policy against seniors because they would get their pants sued off. However they all have a double standard when it comes to age, weight, and good looks. Your resume may get you in the door, but your age will send you right back out of the door. IF a study was done where two individuals with exactly the same credentials applied for the same job, I would put money on it that the younger person would come out on top. There was a book a long time ago that uncovered racial bias in much the same way. A white guy went around disguised as a black man and applied for jobs and took public transpotation, etc. Then he did it again as a white man and confronted the same people who discriminated against him when he was black. It think the book was titled "Black like me".
