I've actually wondered this for a while, the only thing I could think of was that either it was for novice typers so that they would know where to position their index fingers, or for blind people so they would also know where to position their hands...but why would blind people use a non brail keyboard?

Anyone know what they’re for?? Have a source?

So that you can find the correct placement by touch for your fingers on the home row of your computer. The left first finger goes on the F and the right first finger goes on the J.

Touch typist index fingers are on the F and J keys. This helps keep them on the proper keys. I reckon they don't teach typing in school anymore!

those are there to help you come across the "abode" place on the keyboard. That way your palms stay top orientated on the keyboard. abode place is ASDF(LEFT HAND) AND JKL;(top HAND)
