I don't know about grown men, but my son was only bothered by his for an hour or so. There were ointments we had to put on it for about a week so that it didn't reattach or get infected, but he was never in any pain when we did it. I'd say after about a day you won't be uncomfortable anymore. But I don't have a penis, so I can't say for sure.

I was circumcised at 18 and it took a good 30 days, but well worth it.. An infant heals much quicker, about a week.

Circumcision care
It will take about seven to 10 days for the penis to heal. The tip of the penis may seem raw at first, and you may notice a yellowish mucus or crust. A small amount of bleeding also is common the first day or two.
It's OK to wash the penis as it's healing. Change the bandage with each diaper change, and apply a dab of petroleum jelly to the tip of the penis to keep it from sticking to the diaper. If there's a plastic ring instead of a bandage, it will drop off on its own — usually within a week.
Problems after circumcision are rare.
Difficulty in urinating normally within six to eight hours after the circumcision.
There's persistent bleeding or redness around the tip of the penis.
The tip of the penis is swollen.
You suspect an infection — there's foul-smelling drainage from the tip of the penis, or crusted sores fill with fluid.
Consult a doctor in such rare cases.

Well I would suggest to let the area heal for about 1-2 weeks before doing any major physical work. You probably can resume normal activity if you be cautious to the area. Or even better ask your doctor!

There are less drastic treatments for almost all foreskin problems. Consult a urologist. Once you are circumcised, it's permanent. You can never get those nerve endings back - ever. You will never be a whole man again for the rest of your life. You will be cheating yourself and any sexual partners out of a lot of pleasure. Please agressively explore alternatives.

Unless it were medically necessary, why would you consider doing such a thing to yourself?
