I take 800mg of ibuprofen (like advil) twice a day before my period starts (usually a day or two before it's going to start) and continue it until it's pretty much done and have much less cramps and pain than usual. Also, if you have really bad periods, ask your doctor about going on the Pill (birth control). It helps regulate your periods, reduces the flow, and can even help take the edge off of cramps. You should double check with your doctor too about taking 800mg of ibuprofen (that's 4 regular strength advils)- if you have stomach problems it's not good for ya, either. I've never tried pamprin or any of the typical pms meds, but have heard from friends that ibuprofen works better anyway!

Like Katie, I use Ibuprofen. They say 400 mg on the package, but no doctor ever prescribed less than 800 mg for me, so I take double the OTC dose. Do NOT take more than 800 mg! Also, make sure you take it with food or milk. Ibuprofen is hard on the stomach and can cause ulcers and other gastric problems if taken on an empty stomach.

If you get cramps, believe it or not, sit ups help. Of course, we don't feel like exercising when we have cramps. LOL Don't try to exercise hard. Just do sit-ups at whatever level is easy for you. Don't strain. 5 or 10 will help. It relaxes the uterine muscle tissue and helps to stop the contractions that we call cramps.

Menstrual cramps are like the contraction of heart muscle in a heart attack. It's not imagination, but a real thing and it can really hurt. Some people do not get them and don't get what the big deal is. It's a big deal if you are the one suffering from it.

So be good to yourself.

Best Wishes,

Sue

i don't know if you're asking about birth control or pain relief. for birth control, i like the minipills, because they don't contain estrogen and make your periods either light or non-existent. i take micronor and don't have a period at all.
