How did Ali G/Borat get away with making the movie he did?

Don't people know he is taking the piss out of them?!! It all seems a bit contrived at parts too.. thoughts?

the thing that struck me about Ali G was that no one challenged his 'is it cos I is black?' thing, on the basis that he clearly was not black!

I think there are two interpretations; one that he was exploiting people's eagerness to embrace the media, that people behave less critically or rationally when they are exposed to camera crews. Two, less cynically, people tend to take folk at face value, and cut the Borat character a lot of slack because they believe he is a naive foreigner.

Then there is the possibility that a lot of the people he interviewed are really as thick as pig shite! But we don't know how much footage was actually shot - he may have edited a lot of stuff out and only used the real dumbfuck stuff!

I note that a couple of American students are suing, claiming they were entrapped into sounding racist!

It's one of the best comedies I've ever seen in my life. The people in the film (like the driving instructor, jokes bloke etc.) didn't know that it was a movie and believed they were taking part in a documentary and were paid cash in hand, about £200. The people in the village scenes were each paid £3 to appear in the film. But it's been in the news they're planning to sue (more or less everyone) because they were falsely led to belive they were being filmed for a documentary, and the man with no arm apparently didn't "realise" he was sellotaping a dildo to his arm - Funny!

I think people just played along with it..but the Pamela anderson bit might have been scripted, since she refuses to say whether or not she knew about it. The prostitute, too, I think was an actor. And about the drunk frat boys, I read that the production crew took them out to a bar before filming. They got them drunk and then asked them to sign a waiver so they wouldn't sue them.

He lied to a lot of those people in the movie.....told them it was going to be a documentary, or that it was going to be a foreign film only. Most of those people in the movie would not have doen the stuff they did if they were aware of the truth. He and the studio are being sued by a number of people, and I for one, hope they win!! The movie really sucked.....

When you tell someone that your making a movie, and people see a camera, they will just about let you do anything, short of harming them, (and some nut cases will even volunteer to do that!).

Plus, he probably only gave them "half truths" on what he was doing, while being insulting to everyone.

No, I didnt see the movie, but, I saw some "trailers" to it and he seems to be very insulting, so I wont go see it.

I just seen it tonight and he is crazy, i can see him getting sued for all of that stuff especially if no one gave consent, especially if Pamela had no real clue about what was coming. and no i don't think people feel he is taking the piss coz America is purely made of foreigners so they always expect those not attuned to their customs, it all confirmed what we believe all along, he Americans are crackers.

The world needs a piss take film, we are so took up in current crappy news events that we need to take a step back and laugh at ourselves.
