Amazing Grace was written by the captain of a slave trading ship on his way to North America from Africa. In the middle of the night he felt that God came to him and taught him the error of his ways, he wrote Amazing Grace, turned the ship around and returned the people to Africa.

One of the most important aspects of singing well involves correct breathing. Now you would think that we would already do this correctly. Try a site like https://tr.im/OFUUc which has the best vocal exercises

After all if we couldn't breathe we wouldn't be alive! But in reality many people have bad breathing habits caused by a variety of things including poor posture and our often frantic lifestyles. Learning how to control your breathing is one of the keys to improving your voice.

Singing requires that you are able to take in enough air quickly before you are about to sing a line and then let this air out in a regular and controlled way whilst singing the notes. The mistake many novice singers do is to take a quick shallow gasp of air into the top of the lungs. This results in there being insufficient air, to get you through the line you are singing, and you will end up dropping notes. I'm sure you can relate to this experience and can remember times when you have had to quickly take in more air half way through the line or note you are singing.

"At any rate, John Newton (1725-1807) was the captain of an old slave ship. As a child, Newton had been exposed to religious training, but the things he learned didn't stay with him as an adult. Nevertheless, at age twenty-three, when all seemed lost in the midst of a violent storm on the high seas, Newton cried out to God for mercy. He felt that his subsequent survival was a result of God's answer to his cry, and Newton said that through that experience God began a work of grace in his life. Newton continued to run slaves for a little while, but saw to it that they were treated better, and eventually he left the slave trade behind.

John Newton also wrote the lyrics to the famous gospel classic "Amazing Grace." If one looks it up in the Library of Congress, the lyrics are attributed to Newton, and in terms of credit for the music, it simply says: "Anonymous." The way I understand it, the melody of this song was something Newton often heard drifting up from below in the slave ship as he was transporting blacks to market, and that it gripped Newton's heart so strongly that he ended up writing lyrics to it."

This is probably the most popular hymn in the English language—a television documentary was even made about it. Perhaps it is because its words so well describe the author: John Newton was a slave trader before coming to Christ. It was sung at the funeral of American president Ronald Reagan.

The song Amazing Grace was made by a guy named John Newton. He had a job was to be a servant of a man that transpored SLAVES by sea and sell them. His master abused him a lot. He wasn't very religious although his mom taught him Christainity but she died when he was pretty young. His wife turned him around and he figured how far he was from his god. He was so happy when he believed Jesus died for him and made the song amazing grace.

the song was written by John Newton, a former captain of a slave ship. Though he became a minister he still had investments with the slave trade and it wasnt until many years after he wrote the hymn that he began to condemn it.

It doesn't! It was written by an agnostic sea captain caught in a horrific storm. He promised GOD he would believe if the storm stopped. It did, he believed and wrote Amazing grace.

I always knew it to be played for funerals and death related events. I've not heard anything about it referenced in slavery.
