There are plenty of christians who understand evolution and scientific theories, millions if not billions. They are quite embarassed actually with the fundamentalist idiots who maintain this creationism anti-rational approach.
The Catholic Church, for example, specifically teaches that faith must not conflict with reason and Pope John Paul II discussed this in the light of evolution about which he said:
"new knowledge has led to the recognition of the theory of evolution as more than a hypothesis"
Its worth bearing in mind that Darwin was a very religeous man, as was Newton and many other prominent scientists of the past. A few fundies should not turn your head from that!

We don't deny. Many Christians are on the fence about evolution just because there isn't sufficient evidence yet. Did God create mankind via evolution? Possibly. Again, we don't know.
And in Bible-speak, the world being created in six days is relative. One day could have been several thousand years. And not only that, but this is God we're talking about. He probably could have snapped his fingers and created the world in one second anyhow.
There are some things, though, we won't dispute over. God and Jesus both defied the laws of physics. I mean, he's God. Why would we expect him to adhere to earthly limits?

hold the phone. . you just mentioned two opposites, evolution and the laws of physics. .
the "laws" of physics are just that. . they are laws, observable, repeatable, testable. . visible. .
Darwinian evolution is not a fact, not observable, not testable, not repeatable, and not even close to the realm of fact or law.
Darwinian evolution is not fact, but faith. Often those pushing it try to dress it up as science or scientific, but it is not anywhere near the realm of real observable, testable empirical science.
There is no confirming evidence for Darwinian evolution, which is basically a speculative story of creation for those who don't want to believe in God. It goes against the fossil record, all known laws of science, common sense, and the laws of probability. It is mathematically impossible. This is just the first step of Darwinism which is mathematically impossible, and every other necessary step after it is as well.
Life arising from non-life in some hypothetical (mythical) ancient primordial soup could not possibly have happened. Sir Fred Hoyle (presitigious mathematician and astronomer of the 20th century) calculated the odds of just this first "non-life to life" step (chemical evolution. . all the stuff that would need to get together by chance just happening to come together (and stay together (another impossible step), in some ancient prebiotic ocean as "one in ten raised to the 40,000th power" (he said, 'this is enough to completely bury Darwin and his theory of evolution" (the idea that life could possibly have arisen by chance in some ancient warm pool). .
(the reason he said this totally buries Darwin's theory is that in math there's a law that if the chances of anything happening are slimmer than one in ten raised to the 50th power, you can say for sure it will never ever happen, no matter how much time and space you give it, it can't possibly happen. .
well the chances of 1 in ten raised to the 40,000th power is much slimmer than 1 in ten to the 50th, so he said, "no way possible".. the chances are necessarily zero"
he said that the likelihood of life arising from chance in some ancient hypothetical pool (all by itself) was about the same chance that a tornado could roar through a junkyard and assemble a fully functional 747 airplane from the junk in the junkyard.
in other words. . "ain't gonna happen"
By the way, he's talking here just about the first required step for Darwinism to have happened, to be true. He is not even talking about all the required multiple miracles that would have had to happen for Darwinism to be true and to be the real history of how we got here. . those are many more steps which couldn't possibly happen, and never did, (even the fossil record shows that Darwinism didn't happen).
More info on how impossible this Darwinian make-believe scenario is can be found at :
http://www.answersingenesis.org
or at :
http://www.crev.info
both are awesome sites and have lots of articles on the latest headlines in the creation/evolution debate (but without the lying liberal media spin where they state Darwinism as fact without knowing what they are talking about)
by the way, one additional fact. . a lot of the very top astrophysicists around the world are totally REJECTING the "Big Bang" theory as reasonable or workable. . they say it doesn't and won't and can't (and never did) work. . it doesn't agree with the observable data. .
to see an open letter from these hundreds of top scientists (with more signing every day (at the bottom of the page you can see their names). . go to:
http://www.cosmologystatement.org
very interesting!! but sneaky!
*** btw, the "proof" that the earth is billions of years old is based on VERY shaky and unreliable radiometric dating methods which have been repeatedly shown to be unreliable and untrustworthy (like when they test the front and back end of a mammoth and get dates tens of thousands of years different from two different ends of the SAME animal!!).. not very reliable. . and they can be affected by a lot of outside factors (that can affect the "age"). .

I'm a Christian-Evangelist...you have a right to say what you want...but anywayz, I believe that God made this world and is creating (or using) evolution somehow...im not sure if im making much sense to you, i cant really explain what im i mean...and its not all of us "religious people" that act that way...i dont think u should judge all "religious people" based on a few or a couple that you've met or have had to deal with...its called stereotyping

I just thought id reply to the whole 1 in 40 billion chance life could happen out of non life comment. Look around us, more than 40 billion stars and planets around us and no other life. Theres your 1 in 40 billion :)
and understand evolution before you comment on it please. Evolution is as simple as you carry the same characteristics as your parents. If your family has weak lungs and the air thins out, your family dies and those with strong lungs live and reproduce...

A lot of what science is, is nothing more than hypothesis. Which is just another word for an educated guess. While I am a fallen Catholic for lots of reasons, I don't see that big of a difference between faith in Science and faith in the religious sense.

you ask us to speculate on the motives of others
when, if you really wanted to understand their thought processes,
you should have dared to ask them
during your conversations with them
if you're just reacting to comments/opinions that you've read (and were attributed to "religious people")
i hope you receive an answer here that settles the questions in your mind about why people think the ways they do
cheers, mate!

I as quickly as had a chum who became very on the brink of me. as quickly as as quickly as we've been sitting on the fringe of a swimming pool, she crammed the palm of her hand with some water and held it in the previous me and reported this: "you notice this water heavily contained in my hand?" It symbolizes love. "this is how I observed it. as long as you maintain your hand caringly open and allow it to stay there, it's going to be there. even with the indisputable fact that in case you attempt to close your hands around it, it is going to spill with the aid of the 1st cracks it nicely-knownshows." this is the terrific ppl do whilst they meet love. attempt to own it, anticipate it, call for it, and it in simple terms spills like the water out of your hand. If there are people you like, enable them to be unfastened beings. supply and don't anticipate. suggestion yet do no longer order. Ask, yet by no ability call for. it would sound hassle-free even with the indisputable fact that that's a lesson that could take an entire life to truly prepare. it particularly is the secret of actual love. to truly prepare it , you're able to essentially sense no expectancies from those you like, and yet an unconditional being concerned" existence is eye-catching, stay it. in case you like something, enable it pass. If it comes returned to you, without you having to plead or beg, then its yours continuously. If it would not then it grew to become into by no ability meant to be"
