I love to hug people, especially my little nephew. (only when it's called for.)
Now, he is 4 years of age, and sometimes he backs off and doesn't want to hug.

My question is will it make a good impression on him, and will he be a future hugger to others and his kids?
By the way, my parents were NOT huggers to us children, and I find that a little sad.

Each person needs a hug. Peace.

i agree. though some might deny it, everyone needs a good dose of hugs once in a while. my parents aren't huggers too, so i've grown up to never hug people. but i realize that isn't very healthy to a person's emotional well-being. people who don't get hugs tend to have trouble expressing their feelings to their friends and loved ones.

also...i find it strange that your nephew resists hugs at such a young age. i think it's even more important to hug the young ones as they're still growing emotionally. but of course, don't force it on people if they don't like it.

I think you should ask him for a hug, but don't force it on him or he will learn to avoid you. You could always say, I love giving you hugs because I care about you so much! Can I get a hug? Some kids go through stages where they don't want to be hugged and others are free with their hugs. I know I have an aversion to people touching me unless I invite it. I can't stand for some one to come up and put their hands on me, hug me etc, without asking first.

Nah, I personally am not a hugger.... once in a while is fine and nice.. but to call myself a "hugger" would be totally wrong..its gets kind of annoying and I get irritated..
but everyone is different,, and i believe that hugging is way better than being "distant" so good for you....

Hug on dude, Hug on.....

Your setting a good example but not everyone needs to be a hugger. He will be fine whether he is or not.

yes, we all need a hug sometime.. but we also need our own space at times... you should considerate even to little children always ask a person if you can give or get a hug, and not just do it... ;)

i think that everyone needs a hug...if he backs off..thats ok. just go with it. sooner or later he'll be back into the "hugging process" again. dont worry. its just the age.
