I'm from Argentina, and here in my country everybody say that he died because of drugs (they told me that was on CNN) and I wanted to verify if it's true

School Musical's Zac Efron will again star in a high-school based tuner—he is set to play Link Larkin in the big screen adaptation of Hairspray. He joins previously reported stars Nicole Blonsky, John Travolta, Queen Latifah and Amanda Bynes in the film.
Efron is best known for starring as Troy Bolton in the wildly popular Disney television movie High School Musical. The singing voice that is heard in the picture is not all Efron's—his voice was blended with that of another actor. However for Hairspray, he alone will croon Link's numbers. Prior to High School Musical, Efron had a recurring role on the series Summerland. His regional theater credits include productions of the musicals Gypsy, Little Shop of Horrors and The Music Man.
According to Variety, New Line Cinema has picked up Zac Efron to play the role of Link in Hairspray.
Efron, who has found success on Disney's High School Musical, will need to take a different approach to fulfill the demands of his new character.

Not as far as I can find...quote about him from Wikipedia...
"Efron graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in 2006. He has been accepted to both UCLA and USC and will be attending USC in the Fall of 2007."

of course not. who ever gave you that information is wrong. he is alive. just check the websites i listed below it tell you all about him and there is no information about him dieing because he didn't die.
