You really shouldn't be offended if it's a religious thing - people believe what they believe, and it's really none of anyone else's business what they believe - if he's found a faith that works for him, he's better off than most of us - and he's better off sticking to that faith than just rejecting it when it becomes inconvenient - everybody says they want to find someone with the courage of their convictions, but when they meet someone who actually sticks to their commitments of faith, somehow that's not appealing.
Don't be offended, be tolerant.
