Im afraid they can son. And no he cant do anything about it. The law is the law. Not always fair, sometimes harsh but none of us are above it.

I doubt the Court has adjourned for no good reason - that would be a waste of Court time and public money, especially if it's Crown Court. It's done only where nessary.

If they are not able to sentence, that means they don't have something they need in order to be able to ahead, something like a report or recommendation for sentencing from an agency who would be involved in carrying out the sentence.

Far be it for me to agree with a fascist like Ratbagdan, but I do find my sympathies lie with the victims of this criminal - and before you try to convince there were no victims let me state that there always are. If it's a crime against the state, it's the tax payer who picks up the bill, if it's crime against the retail sector, it's the customer who pays higher prices to cover the cost, if it's violent crime then society pays by living in an atmosphere of fear as well as the actual victim. Perhaps you'd be willing to tell us what this m8 (what's wrong with using "mate" you lazy git) has been found guilty of and see how much sympathy you get here then.

There must be a very good reason for the court to interfere with its listing arrangements in this way. One likely explanation which occurs to me is that possibly the trial judge, who should be sentencing him, has been taken ill or is otherwise unable to be there? Presumably he is expecting a custodial sentence, or he wouldn't be quite so stressed. In that case, he'll just have to see this as ten more days to enjoy the company of his family.

I'd feel more sympathetic but for that sneaking suspicion that he must, after all, have done something to be in this situation...

Did he do it ?
If yes, and without knowing all the ins and outs of it - then he should have known better having a young son. If you can't do the time and all that. Score 1 to the coppers.

The courts are allowed to do this, it happens quite often to prisoners on remand. Is your mate on remand or at home?
