On Most Cars the Answer is NO.
Some Fords use the ECT sensor to tell the computer to turn the cooling fan on. What kind of car are we talking about?

EDIT :
On 1993 Saturn SL2 , YES it is the same Sensor. It is on the Back of the Cylinder Head and has a yellow and a gray wire going to it.

no the fan sensor tells the fan when to turn on. The temp sensor show you if you are running hot or not. 2 seperate items

No, one turns on the fan and the other works with the computer :)
