Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

Technically, you don't have a virus. You have what is called Mal-ware.
A very good program for dealing with this is a program called AVG Free Anti Spy-ware. The program installs as the full paid for version for the first 30 days. After that, it changes to a more limited but very useful free version.
Download, install and update the program.
Boot your PC into safe mode by pressing F8 while the PC is booting, before Windows starts. If windows starts before you see a boot menu, you missed it and need to start over.
Do a full scan of your PC with AVG Free Anti Spy-ware.
Reboot into normal mode and scan again
If you don't have an Anti-Virus program, the AVG Free Anti-virus is a very good free program.

AOL has free security software which you should load and use. You must unload any antivirus software before loading it. Call AOL tech help and have them walk you through it.
The reason to use AOL is that they "push" their with or without unclear messages to load something. If you have other firewalls and antivirus programs running, at best, your computer is slow--at worst, toast.

Install Norton Anti-Virus. It comes up and tells you if there is something wrong with your computer. It pops up all the time and gets annoying, but it is worth it!!!
