not a word

2006-11-15 08:36:28 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Well, I was writing an obituary of a great man, and denouncing the NYT s obit of the same, and wrote this: "This man was great, one of the greatest they ve ever obitted (and they ve obitted them all, right?)."

Obitted. It s a word now!

No seriously... next I decided I d probably made up a word, so I googled it and ended up here (does googling something really have to be capitalized? Googling doesn t work even if it is capitalized! Does Googled (capitalized)? Nope. Okay, obitted must be omitted. I will rewrite that sentence.

I will guess that this is a made up word which turns the word "obituary" into a verb. To write an obituary would then be to obit. Perhaps it is used as follows:
" I did not know of Oscars death until they obitted him in the Sunday Times."
Since you did not give me a sentence and "obitted" is not in my dictionary, this is my best guess.

Obitted? No such word that I can find.

Maybe someone meant "orbited?" There are a lot of misspelled words here on YA.
