what is the purpose of physical laughter...the act of laughing out loud, shaking with laughfter & not being able to stop when you try.
we all can be happy and feel humor with out the body actually going into a laughing fit. so what is its function?

It is a social function to let our comrades know that we are happy. It's our way of saying "that was funny"... like when a cat growls or a snake hisses. It serves to show that something is funny.

Good question. Maybe it's an over reaction in the brain. Like all the neurons firing at the same time and not being able to stop. Or, maybe something was just that funny.

Does it have to serve a purpose? It may be a pressure release valve or a psychological mechanism...but I just don't care. I love you laugh.
