Not necessarily... Most people that are cutters do it for a release of stress or anxiety, something that they have control over. They arent doing it to try and commit suicide...

No, and it's neither emo nor a fad. It's been happening for a LONG time with young people, I've had friends ten years ago who were cutting.
It's not suicidal, because if they were suicidal, they aren't afraid of the pain, so they'd just kill themselves. It's also not a cry for attention. A cutter covers up their scars just as a heroin addict would cover their tracks. It's something that embarasses them, and they do wish they could stop.
It's a way for a kid to find control and release in their lives. A teenager can't run away from home without consequences. They can't just get a job and make enough money to remove themselves from their situation. It's a feeling of being trapped, or doomed to suffer through their lives... Cutting can release the pain inside, and make it physical. The blood is like a metaphor for the pain leaving the body. All the while the cutter has control of the situation (to a degree), and can feel when "enough is enough".
Kids like that do need help though. They need to find other ways of de-stressing, and someone to help them realize that their situations are only temporary. That staying healthy, and committing to school are the only ways to get themselves where they want to be.
I really have a lot of compassion for kids like that. I remember what it felt like to have no control. I am glad to say that those people I knew who cut themselves have now moved on and become adults, able to handle pain and anxiety in healthier ways. It seems more often than not that the same is the case for most cutters. However I'm sure there are some who take it to the next level. We can only hope that they have good friends closely watching to help them out.

no, because the fad is so rediculous- if these kids were smart and were suicidal, they would be cutting on their main artery veritcally. cutting is usually just done and scrapes the surface of the skin. its just stupid *** kids with parents that dont pay enough attention to them, or they were probably molested as young children and still looking for attention of some kind.

I heard it can be if you cut some spot on the wrist in which you could die from blood loss...

I agree with some point of views above... I guess it could also be another way of suppressing the pain... it sounds stupid but it may true.

No. Its more a cry for help. It another way that women destroy themselves like bulemia, anorexia, destructive relationships, etc, etc.

It comes from feelings of having no control in your life mostly and it makes you FEEL as opposed to dead nothingness.

No, it's just the lesser cry for attention making it an even worse and stupider problem.
