i'd say no - when we were kids we woulyd just disappear off for the day etc. no-one would know where you were - now with mobiles and parental paranoia you couldn't do this. kids get driven everwhere - i bet a lot of kids are never left alone now

Try searching the daily papers, like guardian unlimited and the daily mail. I find these good for controversial ideas and arguments. For example about children being encouraged to use games consoles rather than go out to play in case they are a seen as anti-social. Children are richer than ever before, but have less freedom just to be kids. They all want and expect to be entertained and don't know what its like just to go out and make thier own fun ( without causing trouble). There seems to be very little tolerence for children these days.

If I compare the lives of children today with my childhood 30 years ago I'd say I had more freedom - I was allowed to go to the park by myself, play on the street, go on bike rides to the local common and visit my friends. Wouldn't let any child of mine be out and about nowadays without supervision!

Children of today have many extracurricular activities, such as, sports, music lessons and the like that occupies a great deal of their time. So, you could make an " against " argument from this information.

Peer pressure is greater and from a psychological viewpoint, freedom is lost. Kids today are told they are subject to biological urges and so must cave in to those urges and have sex, and here's a condom to help you on the way!

Former generations had sex too, but knew they were choosing and in control of their bodies. It was ok to say "no" and the urges did not have control.

Anyway, that's my two cents.

Kids today run the streets, but they are far from free.

if you think that children do not have more freedom, support this idea by your own arguments.

normally it is good that you give your own opinio, agains that what books say.
