After convincing yourself that he will be a happier and healthier person if he seeks medical help from either a dentist or GP.
Halitosis can be for a number of reasons, and if bacterial in origin, he'll need to take a short course of metronidazol to 'zap' them.
Show him this site and these series of Answers.
Bottom line is he should seek professional advice.

Check the reason for it
is it bad diet
poor dental hygiene
or simply that he needs to drink more often?
Then you say
Honey You got stinky breath these days go to the dentist and I'll kiss ya like never before when you get back!!

Yes, you should be able to talk about anything after 5 years!
If not, edge up to the subject in a general fashion until you can make a hint or comment.

In the most possible tactful way. If you care for your partner than he will understand that you are concerned, not just for your sake, but also for the sake of his friends, colleagues, work mates etc. Sometimes halitosis (bad breath) can be a sign of gastric problems too......Go for it at the right moment, in the right tone/manner. If necessary consult a GP. GOOD LUCK !!!!

What is the big deal? I always let my man know when his breath is untolerable. The longer you wait may be setting him up for embarrasment from someone else who happens to come across his bad hygiene! Let him know before it's too late. It's not like you are telling him his penis smells!!

When they come near you say 'sweetie have you brushed your teeth today?'. Try and keep it light and they should get the hint. Don't say 'i've been meaning to tell you for some time but ...' They'll probably get upset that everybody's been thinking they smell behind their back.

My girlfriend tells me all the time when my breath stinks. Usually when i wake up in a warm room, that makes it bad, or after work when i haven't had a chance to brush.
Just tell him, I'm sure he can take it from his wife!

i told my husband. there is a tounge scraper that you can get at most retail/drug stores. also,is he flossing before he brushes? a possibiltiy could be plaque build up. It helps to change to a new toothbrush every 3 months like a dentist will recommend.
