i hav4 just watched the six episode of season 3!! wow
my theory is that even the writers dont know whats going on!!!
i think the others dont know any other life as they were brought up there and are to scared to leave the island.
they seem to be in an old zoo guess that explains the polar bears!!
but what on earth is the black smoke thing that killed eko??!!! things seem to fit together and then bam it doesnt!!!
really interested to hear your view i have no one to talk to about it too as its not been aired over here yet!!!!!

I agree with you on the part where they probably had a zoo. That would explain the cages that Kate and Sawyer are in plus the polar bears that showed up way back when.
About the smoke, I have no idea what it is. If you watched the first season, they had that gigantic thing that would rip through the forest and it killed their pilot. We never found out what that was either! Oh and I don't remember if it was the first or second season but one time I think it was Locke or Charlie who was dragged into a hole by this loud mechanical thing. Could that be the smoke? I don't know. They should really clear things up. lol But I love the show!

The Others seem to have some access to life off the island. For example, they have files about everything on the survivors of the plane crash.
My guess is that the Others are there somehow to keep the smoke being in check. Ben once said that they are the good guys. The way they treat Jack, Kate, Sawyer and the plane survivors in general is not nice, so the goodness must have something to do with some other aspect of their lives on the island.

Apparently the writers, directors, etc. connected with Lost have some sort of contempt for the viewer. How else can one explain these plot twists which make no sense at all. This show should have ended long before now as there was just enough material for a TV movie.

I have no idea. There are so many different theories floating around about what the island is, who the Others are, etc., I can't keep them all straight.
The producers have been very assuring that they have all the answers, just are slow to reveal anything.
My personal favorite is the theory that the entire show is taking place inside Vincent's mind. Yes, Walt's dog, Vincent. That cracks me up.
