Ok, ok. Spare all of us the "I hate anyone that loves themselves more than me" rabble. This is a real question. We've come to the conclusion that the American narcissist exist, and by truth, in all of us. This century's decline of the family structure, the new code of individualized ethics, and the constant hyper vigilence in a society that lives to "survive", have contributed to the rise of this contemporary personality type. Its here, and its staying, like it or not! ('The sociopath next door' has nothing on this guy!)

But what then. What of this person? How does one live SUCCESSFULLY as a Narcissist? In a world thats leaning more toward the family, and less toward the self.

Narcissist Not Need hope. It doesn't start with "N" so the Narcissist sees no value in it. Nothing in common. Do not ask me to explain, for the answer would be too deep and one thing a Narcissist is is not deep.

What makes you think the world is leaning more towards family-oriented values than self-oriented ones? America has a huge influence on global society, and America is becoming more individualistic at an alarming rate. The drive to live the "American Dream" can do nothing BUT create a more narcissistic society. It's all about who you are, what you do, and for women, who made your shoes.

If you're part of this crowd, then live it up. The world revolves around you anyways, and you've got a whole lot of company.

The narcissist gets by on this truth:
Everything you do, you do for yourself. Any other justification is a delusion. For example, you might say you're doing a good deed for somebody else's benefit. But how do you know that person will see it as a benefit? How do you know that person isn't perfectly happy the way things are? You can't know. All anyone can know is the content of their own mind. The reality is you do something nice because it supports your own ego to think of yorself as someone who does nice things.

Fact is, everything "out there" is just an abstraction (so is the idea of a personality type like "American Narcissist").

Reality is like Hassan i Sabbah said: "Nothing is true, everything is permitted."
Or in the words of Aleister Crowley: "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law."

It can't be any other way. The Narcissist just realizes that. It doesn't make him less socially responsible, it just frees him from the slavery of abstraction.

The personality type is a frequency dependent type. The proportion in the population may vary, but the societal selection pressure you posit would keep narcissism at about the same level as now. More narcissists because of more population; the type is not on the " rise", just, as sociopath, being noticed more in our concentrated urban world.

One doesn't live successfully as a narcissist. The human being is never happy for long without giving, as well as receiving, love.

If you ask this question you can not be the today's Narcissist you ask about.
A true Narcissist would not be able to ask. He would assume the world revolved around him and not been able to understand why others don't see this and behave as they should.

A point to ponder: Ego is not the same as Narcissism.
One is healthy expression and
the other....!!!..???...!!!...???...!!!...
