You know the phrase "Blood is thicker than water"? Well, I was thinking, and I put my own little spin on it: "Blood is thicker than water, but water is thicker than rose water" meaning, you know, friends come before relationships with guys/girls. Those come and go, (except once. He he!) but friends are forever. I read somewhere friends are just family you choose. I agree. And also, don't you think that the "water" often is needed to make the "blood" work. I think I would have moved out by the time I was 12 if some of my friends hadn't calmed me down, told me the "blood" only wanted what was best for me, etc. I last thought. Often blood and water mix. Your family can be your best friend. Your best friends can be the family you don't have when you need one. Agree? Thanks for the opinions!

MY LIFE MOTTO OF THE DAY: Life isn't about getting through the storm, it's about learning to dance in the rain.

I agree--to a certain extent. However, I think you're concentrating too much on the semantics and categorization of individuals. I approach it more from the angle of personal integrity, honor and ethics. This being said, water will never be thicker than blood in my book.

I think that instead of comparing all family to all friends to all relationships you have to compare one person to the other. I have an older brother and sister by blood, and a brother my age and a younger sister by choice. I hate my older brother, he is an arrogant self centered jerk(those are my nice words), so my best friend for 15 years (and I'm only 20) is going to come before my brother every time. I guess it's really about the individual relationships and how they effect you. Blood may be thicker than water, but you need water just as much as blood to survive, and as far as roses are concerned, well, roses cost too much.

How can you dislike something/someone who shares more than 70% of your DNA, has blood type like you and when push comes to shove, is the only one that can save life b/c of these facts. I am sorry but your friends cant give you one of their kidneys no matter how much you love them but a brother/sister or someone in family can no matter how much you hate them. For example, alienating all family and u eventually need a kidney transplant will only afford all your lovely friends to sit and watch you die b/c your silly butt dont know how to contact family

Actually, rose water would be thicker than just plain water.
The analogy of blood being thicker than water works because it is literally and figuratively true.....in theory at least. Most of my actual family can take a flying leap, I value my friends much more. I mean, you choose your friends.....it's a crap shoot with family.

You should take the hearts off your picture because you have never known love if you think that friends are more important.
