i thought it was shilton but after checking he retired after italia 90. woods and martyn were taken to euro 92, and seaman wasnt, but by 93 he became the first choice under terry venables. so technically it wasnt shilton before seaman it was chris woods! i didnt even remember who he was i must admit

It was Chris Woods. He was understudy to Peter Shilton for years and finally got his chance following Shilton's retirement after Italia 90. (Dave 'Lurch' Beasant was third choice in that tournament).
However, by the time Woods got his chance he was already in his thirties (I think) and younger talent such as Big Dave Seaman, Tim Flowers and Nigel Martyn (at the time the first £1million 'keeper) were staking their own claims for the no.1 jersey.

We used a mix of Tim Flowers, Nigel Martin, that Walker chap who used to play for Spurs and Chris Woods. Prior to this shower it was the legendary Peter Shilton.
